The Slot Couloir

This was my second time doing The Slot Couloir in less than ideal conditions. We skinned up from the Alpental Parking lot with a nasty icy suncrust. We reached the top of the couloir before noon and dropped in, hoping that the couloir wasn’t icy. The sound of skis on ice is not something I really enjoy, especially when descending a 1,500ft couloir, but nevertheless, we were committed. I slide slipped down the first steep section then managed to make a few turns, which were terrible but at least it was beautiful and sunny! After getting to the bottom of the couloir and skiing down to a flat spot, we eyed crooked couloir and decided to climb it. The couloir made for great climbing as the snow was firm and made a great bootpack. Probably not the best time to ski it, however. After reaching the east side of Mt Snoqualmie, we skied down to commonwealth basin. On hitting a south facing slope, a few members of our group ended up triggering a fairly large but slow moving wet slide. After navigating through the debris and dodging small slides, Josh jumped off a rock and broke a ski in half, which made for some interesting skiing down. All in all a beautiful day with a great group of skiers.
