Dynafit TLT 5 Lower Buckle Replacement

I love almost everything about my Dynafit TLT 5 boots. They’re comfortable, lightweight, they’re easy to walk in, climb, and ski well. The one thing that I hate is the lower buckle. Because the buckle portion is exposed on the lower outside portion of the boot, every time I walk in snow, the buckle flips up and releases. On one of my boots, this buckle became damaged, the retainer spring broke causing the buckle to flop when it’s not under tension. Also the cable loop that connects to the lever, is not permanently connected to the boot, and I’m constantly paranoid it could get lost. The lower buckle on the TLT 6 was redesigned to correct some of these issues but I liked the idea of a buckle that mounts on top of the foot, like the La Sportiva Spitfire 2.0.

I finally bought Spitfire 2.0 lower buckles from La Sportiva and installed them on my boots. I couldn’t be more happy with the result. Below are instructions for replacing the buckles.

First, drill the rivets for the stock buckles, and remove buckles. The lower outside hole may need to be drilled out slightly to get the new t-nut to fit. Install the buckles with the provided t-nuts. I used some silicone caulk to waterproof the holes and help secure the buckles in place.
